Peer Support Feedback
Peer support makes me feel listened to and understood. I love meeting up for a coffee and chat with my peer supporter, as I can get things off my chest
It has been a great help to me, and I feel supported even through some very tough times
Peer support has been life changing for me, I cannot thank my peer worker enough for the unconditional support he has given me through some of the most challenging times of my life. I would not be where I am today without Mind Jersey and all the amazing support they provide
What Is Peer Support?
Peer support is a wide based form of non-professional support. It brings together people with shared experiences of mental health problems.
It can work well alongside professional help and can provide people with a sense of hope and connection.
Peer support recognises the power of social connection in a non-judgemental empathetic relationship. It is based on the idea that “people need people”.
Mind Jersey has been providing peer support for over 10 years. our aim has always been to bring people with lived experience of mental health problems together so that they can help and support each other.
We have a friendly diverse team of dedicated staff and volunteers, who have been given training on how to activate their lived experience and support their peers on a 1 -1 basis, including perinatal, adult and older adult peer support.
Peer support can offer a person:
- The chance to speak with a person who can relate to how they feel
- A space to feel understood and accepted
- The feeling of being less isolated and lonely
- Empathy, understanding and compassion
As a result of our lived experience, we are well equipped to understand the daily struggles that people in recovery face when managing mental health problems. We are committed to helping people to live meaningful and fulfilling lives.
We will do our best to address any individual needs or barriers you foresee to accessing peer support.
