About Scott, written by his Mum

Scott is a 9-year-old boy who will be starting year 5 in September in Mont Nicolle School.
He is very inquisitive, creative and caring. He cares about the world around him, about the environment (was part of the eco-club in his previous school), about the people.

Ever since he learned about UNICEF, he is a huge ambassador of Children’s Rights.

Every time there is a charity event at school, he gets excited and wants to participate. For the last event I believe we made about 20 roman helmets out of coloured cardboard. They sold out and he raised 20 pounds! He was glowing with pride.

Scott loves drawing and he has been expressing himself through drawing since he was little. He always has a couple of notebooks in which he draws all day, every day. When we have time, we experiment with painting, however as he was still very young (and messy) we stuck with watercolours for a long time. As they are rather technical, he still preferred drawing. This year I introduced him to acrylics which he embraced with a passion. The richness, the depth of the colours, the textures he could create thrilled him and he threw all his passion, emotions and creativity into painting. The result of our experimentations were 3 fabulous paintings that we got framed.

Scott cares about the world around him and he wanted to use these paintings to achieve something for the greater good. He wanted to help and to give back. I believe no one these days is a stranger to mental health issues. It’s either ourselves, our someone we know and care about that battles some issue or another. Mind Jersey is a great charity and the fact that they provide for children, makes it more meaningful for Scott.

The way colours look to others.

13.5 x 13.5 inches

This is an experimental mixed media piece. It is the smallest and the most complex of the three. It is a more cerebral, darker piece that combines a variety of methods and media. The crackly texture is intentional and is an expression of Scott’s intense exploration of self in this piece.

Volcano.

27 x 23 inches (with the frame)

Acrylic on canvas. It is a big piece and it is a very emotional piece. Scott really poured his emotions into this one, and they bubble up in this piece, raw and unfiltered. There is texture and colour and raw emotion.

The Green Arctic.

17.5 X 17.5 Inches

The Green Arctic is acrylic on canvas. Scott is absolutely fascinated by the northern lights, and he discovered that with acrylics he could recreate them, much better than with other media. Scott has an inquisitive mind and an inclination towards sciences. He is also environmentally aware and has concerns about the future of the planet.

This is a gorgeous piece that draws attention to the beauty of planet earth.
